The Story

In the summer of 2013 Craig Semetko was one of 10 photographers worldwide invited by Leica Camera to take part in a unique exhibition celebrating its 100 year anniversary. The photographers were paired with their artistic “fathers,” and asked to shoot a project with them in mind. Semetko was paired with iconic photographer Elliott Erwitt, and a series of circumstances conspired to send him to India to shoot the project.

The Book

Continuing in the candid style of his first book UNPOSED, Craig Semetko has produced another stunning collection of spontaneous moments. INDIA UNPOSED is filled with Semetko’s signature humor, as well as moments of intense drama and poignancy. INDIA UNPOSED is a beautifully crafted book available in both a standard edition and deluxe edition containing a unique hand printed gravure print from the book and an additional color chromogenic print on metallic paper.  The deluxe edition is limited to 100 copies, books and prints signed and numbered.

The Prints – Gravure B&W

Photogravure is a printing technique created in the mid-1800’s that involves engraving the image onto a plate. The plate is then bathed in ink and put through an etching press to create a print. The entire process is done by hand, and each print created is one of a kind. These stunning prints were made by Quinton Gordon and Diana Millar at Luz Studio in Victoria, British Columbia, and are signed and numbered to match the corresponding book. It is extremely rare to find a limited edition gravure print offered in a photo book, making India Unposed-Deluxe Edition a true collector’s item.

The Prints – Chromagenic Color

This beautiful print of a young girl standing on a temple in Mahabalipuram overlooking the Bay of Bengal is the only color image appearing in the India Unposed set, and is only available with the Deluxe Edition. It is a chromogenic print made with a chemical process on Fuji Pearl metallic paper at Richard Photo Lab in Los Angeles. As with the gravure print, the image is 6” x 9” on 9” x 11.5” paper, and is signed and numbered to match its corresponding book.
